Written Confession: Voices of Disembodied Girls in the Dining Room

My (now ex) husband and I were laying in bed talking one night after we put our kids (a 15 month old and a newborn at the time) to bed when we heard what sounded like 2 little girls giggling in our dining room. Our bedroom was off the dining room and the dining room was between our room and the kids room. We didn't hear anything on the baby monitor so we both just froze and looked at each other. Before I could ask him if he heard what I heard, one of the little girls' voices loudly whispered "I think they heard us". My husband shot out of bed and ran into the dining room, thinking someone was in our house. I checked on the kids, they were still sleeping. He checked all the other rooms, doors and windows. Nobody else was there... but we both heard those little girls and they knew that we heard them.
