Written Confession: The Musical Hearse of Joshua Tree
The following written confession was submitted via email:
I was listening to your Tin Foil Hat episode yesterday with my husband and I felt compelled to reach out to you, as my husband had a very bizarre experience camping in Joshua Tree about 20 years ago. For the record, I doubt he would ever come on the show and I couldn't convince him to reach out himself, but I wanted to send you this story to corroborate others' experiences. He was camping with three other friends in the middle of nowhere in Joshua Tree off of a deserted dirt road. Full disclosure- they had taken mushrooms earlier in the day but this experience occurred around 3am and they all saw/experienced the exact same thing. Not one car had driven down this road during their camping trip- totally desolate area. All of a sudden, they all started to hear "creepy church music" in the distance, followed by headlights slowly creeping up the road. It was a hearse. This hearse proceeded to stop on the road about 75 yards away right in front of them, with the music playing out of the window loudly. A cloaked figure "appeared" in front of the hearse and stared at them for maybe 5 minutes. The hearse appeared to be backlit somehow even though the headlights were shining to one side, so the cloaked figure was just a silhouette. They were all beyond scared and confused. The silhouetted figure then "disappeared" and the hearse proceeded to drive off slowly continuing to play the creepy music. To this day, they have never been able to explain it. I thought it had a lot of parallels to your stories and HAD to tell you. Anyway, I hope this story adds to the high-strangeness that is Joshua Tree. Cheers!
