READ: New Study Unveils States with the Highest & Lowest Paranormal Searches
When it comes to ghost hunting and all things paranormal, the Mountain State reigns supreme. According to a study by JeffBet (because who could offer better insight into ghost hunting than a gambling website, we guess?), West Virginia tops the charts with the highest interest in paranormal investigations, boasting an average of 403 searches per 100,000 people each month. That’s a whopping 67% above the national average! Locals are frequently searching for terms like 'spirit box,' 'ghost hunting,' and 'cold spots.'
In a surprising twist, the faraway state of Alaska takes the silver medal with 326 monthly searches per 100,000 people, which is 35% above the national average. Colorado follows closely with 305 searches, 27% higher than the US average. Oregon and Nevada round out the top five with 295 and 288 searches, respectively.
On the flip side, Mississippi residents seem to prefer their ghosts left undisturbed, ranking lowest with 161 searches per 100,000 people—47% below the national average. New Jersey and Louisiana aren't far behind, with 178 and 194 searches, respectively, making them some of the least ghost-curious states.
The study also highlights America's fascination with paranormal tools, with popular search terms including ‘Ouija Board’ and ‘Spirit box,’ racking up 133,914 and 161,705 searches. It seems Americans are keen on communicating with the other side, or at least buying the best equipment to do so.
So, if you find yourself in West Virginia, don’t be surprised if someone starts a conversation about their latest ghost hunt. Meanwhile, in Mississippi, you might want to stick to more down-to-earth topics.
