READ: ‘Cursed’ Property Where Brittany Murphy Died & Britney Spears Experienced a Spirit Portal is For Sale
Nestled in the Hollywood Hills, a sprawling mansion with a chilling past is back on the market. Rising Glen House, known for its tragic history and alleged paranormal activity, has captured public fascination for over a decade. Now listed for $17,995,000, its glossy exterior masks a series of eerie events that continue to shroud the property in mystery.
The property became infamous following the untimely deaths of actress Brittany Murphy and her husband, Simon Monjack. On December 20, 2009, the Clueless star collapsed in the home, succumbing to untreated pneumonia, anemia, and drug intoxication. Just five months later, Monjack was found dead in the same home. Their passing sparked widespread speculation, with theories ranging from toxic mold to supernatural interference.
Linda Monjack, Simon’s mother, once suggested the presence of “severe mold” in the home, claiming her son suffered hallucinations of things crawling under his skin before his death. While the coroner's office dismissed the mold theory, the shadow of uncertainty remains.
Long before Murphy moved in, the property had already unnerved one of its previous owners, pop icon Britney Spears. During her time there, Spears reportedly experienced a terrifying encounter she attributed to a spirit portal. According to her former makeup artist, Julianne Kaye, Spears believed a reiki session accidentally opened the portal, inviting malevolent entities into the home. These spirits allegedly tried to harm her, prompting her to flee and never return.
Murphy herself appeared uneasy about the house. In an interview shortly before his death, Monjack revealed that his wife hated living there, often begging to stay elsewhere. "She absolutely hated the Rising Glen house," he shared, describing her insistence that the property was “unlucky.”
The original Rising Glen home where Murphy and Monjack died was torn down in 2013, and a new home was built in its place. The current owners, who purchased the home in 2020, renovated the home yet again, redesigning its exterior and refreshing its interiors. Yet, no amount of renovation seems capable of fully erasing its haunted reputation. Despite its rebirth, the six-bedroom, nine-bathroom estate has struggled on the real estate market, unable to escape its association with tragedy and the supernatural.
For those brave enough to own a slice of Hollywood lore, Rising Glen House offers luxury veiled in intrigue. But for others, its history as a potential site of spirit portals and lingering shadows may prove too unsettling. Could a paranormal portal on the property have played a role in Britney Spears’ eventual breakdown and the untimely deaths of Brittany Murphy and Simon Monjack, or is toxic mold—or some other natural explanation—responsible for the estate’s enduring strangeness?
