Morris County, New Jersey, has become the epicenter of an unusual aerial mystery, with unidentified drones appearing in the skies almost nightly. The persistent sightings have left residents, law enforcement, and even federal agencies struggling to explain the phenomenon.
The drones, first reported in mid-November, seem to follow no clear pattern, appearing most often during the late-night hours. Mike Walsh, a local resident, recalls his first encounter vividly: “We’ve been seeing them every night, except Thanksgiving. I guess they took the night off.”
Walsh described hearing what initially sounded like a helicopter. “By the time I stepped outside, I knew it was something else,” he explained. Despite contacting local police, Walsh has yet to receive definitive answers about their origin.
Others in the area have had similar experiences. Christian Velasquez described seeing a drone with three blinking lights flying over a church and past a train station. “It’s weird. There’s multiple being spotted at the same time all around Morris County. It’s definitely concerning,” he said.
The drones have ignited intense speculation on social media, with theories ranging from government surveillance to UFO activity. Some, like Erica Campbell, expressed concerns about privacy: “People think they’re being spied on.” Others, like Alexis Calle, questioned the drones’ purpose: “What were they looking for?”
In response to growing public unease, local law enforcement agencies issued a joint statement emphasizing that the drones pose no known threat to safety. The statement also cautioned residents against believing unverified rumors spreading online.
Despite reassurances, the mystery has attracted the attention of federal authorities. The FBI’s Newark office, the New Jersey State Police, and the state’s Office of Homeland Security are now involved.
